Major General Thomas R. Moore

Commander of the Georgia Air National Guard

Major Gen. Thomas R. Moore is the Commander of the Georgia Air National Guard. In this position, he reports to the Adjutant General of Georgia.  General Moore’s duties and responsibilities include direct supervision of the Georgia State Air Guard staff, and command of nearly 2,900 Georgia Air Guardsmen serving in two flying wings, seven geographically separated units, and a Combat Readiness Training Center.

Moore was commissioned in 1981 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of South Carolina. He has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels, twice served as Commander of the 416th Air Expeditionary Group in Southwest Asia.

Major Gen. Moore is a master navigator with more than 3,500 flying hours in the T-37, KC-135A/R, B-1B, C-130H, and E-8C.

Moore earned a Master’s Degree in Management from Webster University, is a graduate of the Air War College, and is a National Security Studies "Fellow" of Syracuse University's Maxwell School. He attended the Leadership in Crisis Course in 2008 and the Black Sea Security Program in 2011 at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Moore has also studied U.S. national security policy Issues, ethics, and federal employee management with the Brookings Institute.

He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force Commendation Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), and Air Force Achievement Medal among others.
