CNRFC Seasonal Water Supply Volume Forecast - Google™ Maps Interface

A summary of over 50 water supply forecast stations located throughout southern Oregon, California, and Nevada displayed on a Google™ Maps Interface. Data is updated daily at 12:00 UTC between January 1 and June 30 with the most recent forecast available for the current water year. Also, KML files are available for download and use in Google™ Earth.

Western US Water Supply Forecasts

NOAA/NWS National Water Resources Outlook - Western US Water Supply Forecasts

Predictions of water in the west are important to making decision on water management, recreation, and natural hazards. The tool set provided in this suite of applications provides access to National Weather Service predictions and historical data to assist in making these important decisions. Tools include a map interface that allows a big picture perspective of water in the western United Stated, forecast analysis tools that allow users to download and/or interact with current and recent forecasts, as well as forecast verification tools to assess the long term skill of forecasts both qualitatively and quantitatively. These tools are a product of the National Weather Service.

Official coordinated NOAA/NRCS water supply forecasts are plotted below on the map. Forecasts vary depending on the typical timing of runoff. Clicking on a location below will transfer to the Western US Water Suppy forecast.

NOTE 1: The map below is updated daily between January 1 and June 30 with current water year forecasts plotted.
NOTE 2: Most recent water supply forecast during the current water year is plotted.
NOTE 3: Lake Tahoe (TAHC1) indicates the most probable rise from April to the High stage if gates closed.

Product Information:

  • Issued January through May (special June issuances in certain cases) by the California Nevada River Forecast Center (CNRFC).
  • Coordinated effort between the National Weather Service, California Department of Water Resources, the National Resource Conservation Service, the US Bureau of Reclamation, and local water district managers.
  • All forecast volumes reflect natural flow. Actual observed flow may be affected by upstream water management.
  • All Monthly Water Supply Outlooks and Verification products are publised in .pdf format (requires Adobe® Acrobat Reader).
  • An abbreviated text version that contains forecasts only is also available.

Water Supply Outlook - Western United States

The web page Water Supply Outlook for the Western United States hosted by the CBRFC presents a broader picture of water supply outlook conditions for the western United States, including:

- graphical and tabular streamflow forecasts
- monthly and seasonal precipitation
- mountain snowpack and satellite areal extent of snow cover
- reservoir storage

It is issued jointly by the National Weather Service and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
