2002 MeSH Data Files README


The following files are from the 2002 MeSH Vocabulary download and are the
ASCII formatted files.  For more information on the MeSH Vocabulary files
we would refer you to the following link:

c2002.bin  - Supplementary Concept Records (formerly Supplementary Chemical
             Records), data elements file.

d2002.bin  - Descriptor data elements file.

mtrees2002.bin  - MeSH main headings with the tree numbers that place the
                  heading in a hierarchical arrangement.  Sorted by tree number.

q2002.bin  - Qualifier data elements file.

stree2002.bin  - Not a MeSH vocabulary file.  This file was created by us
                 specifically for the Repository.  The file contains a mapping
                 of MeSH Heading to Semantic Type per the given year.  The 
                 file was created using a combination of the d2002.bin "ST ="
                 fields and relevent UMLS files (MRCON, MRSTY) appropriate
                 to the given year.

SPECIAL NOTE: 
  The mtrees2002.bin file has been modified from it's original form.  The
original mtrees2002.bin file contained "|" bars to separate the MeSH Heading
from it's associated Tree Code.  We changed the "|" bar to a ";" semi-colon
to conform to the standard used in later years.
