Sergeant Major Christovale is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He enlisted into the Marine Corps in June 1982. He completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego in Dec 1982 and the Basic Combat Engineer Instruction School at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina in March 1983. He reported to Camp Hansen Okinawa, Japan for duty with 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd FSSG in April 1983. While there he was meritoriously promoted to the Rank of Corporal.

Corporal Christovale reported to 2nd FSSG, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in April 1985 for duty with Alpha Company and Bridge Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion. While there he served in the billets of Engineer Team Leader and Bridge Section Team Leader. While there he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. 

In October 1986, Sergeant Christovale reported to MCAS Tustin for duty with Marine Wing Support Squadron 374, 3rd MAW. While there he served in the billets of Construction Team Leader, and Construction Squad Leader. 

In December 1988, Sergeant Christovale reported to Marine Barracks, Guantanamo Bay Cuba for duty with the Minefield Maintenance Platoon. 

Sergeant Christovale reported to 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton CA, in December 1989 for duty as a Platoon Sergeant with Alpha Company and Bravo Company, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion. In November 1990, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and deployed to the Persian Gulf in December 1990, with the 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. 

Staff Sergeant Christovale reported to MCRD San Diego in April 1992 for duty as a Drill Instructor with Fox Company, Second Recruit Training Battalion. He also served as a Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor with Special Training Company. 

In July 1994, Staff Sergeant Christovale returned to Camp Pendleton for duty with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion. While there he served as a Platoon Sergeant with Bravo Company and Charlie Company. Staff Sergeant Christovale was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in August 1996. He was later reassigned to H&S Company in the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant. 

In May 1999, Gunnery Sergeant Christovale reported to Support Company, Headquarters and Support Battalion, MCB Camp Pendleton for duty as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. 

Gunnery Sergeant Christovale was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in July 2000 and reported to 5th Marine Regiment for duty as the First Sergeant for Charlie Company, 1st Battalion 5th Marines. While there he deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. 

In August 2003, First Sergeant Christovale reported for duty as the First Sergeant for Bravo Battery, 3rd Low Altitude Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3rd MAW. While there he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. 

In November 2004 First Sergeant Christovale was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and reported to MCAS Yuma, AZ. for duty with “The Black Sheep”, Marine Attack Squadron 214, MAG 13, 3rd MAW. While there he deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. 

In November 2007 Sergeant Major Christovale reported to Camp Pendleton for duty as the Regimental Sergeant Major for Combat Logistics Regiment-1, 1st Marine Logistics Group. He also served as the Sergeant Major for 1st Marine Logistics Group (Main) on two separate occasions, during OIF and OEF. In September 2010 he deployed to Afghanistan with Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Fwd). While deployed he was slated for the billet of SgtMaj Marine Corps Installations-West. 

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/gold star in lieu of 2nd award, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/four gold stars in lieu of 5th award), and the Combat Action Ribbon (w/one gold star in lieu of second award).
