Secretary Sebelius asks the Commission for ethical advice on the development of medical countermeasures for children

January 11, 2012

“Just yesterday evening the Commission received a letter from HHS Secretary Sebelius asking for ethical advice on the development of medical countermeasures for children. The Commission is well aware that this issue garnered significant public interest last fall when another Federal advisory committee recommended pediatric testing of the anthrax vaccine.  The Commission is honored that the Secretary has asked for its advice on this important ethical issue.

It is equally important that the Commission not allow our other work on genetics and neuroethics to be unduly delayed.  The Commission is currently working on a schedule that will ensure that all of our projects are completed in a way that best meets the government’s needs.”
