Cover crop workshops promote soil health

Two cover crop workshops, sponsored by the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District and the Potomac Valley Conservation District, were held on farms in Jefferson and Hardy Counties in October 2012.  Two acre demonstration plantings were done on each farm in cooperation with Conservation Partnering agencies of the West Virginia Conservation Agency, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the WVU Cooperative Extension Service.

Improving soil quality through the use of cover crops is a priority of the West Virginia NRCS Plant Materials Committee and the USDA NRCS Plant Materials Program.
