NIH Data Warehouse—Helping You With Codes and Descriptions

Every day we use many codes to perform our job. Now the NIH Data Warehouse offers one place to retrieve the codes we need along with their description and other related information—in tools that will search for the information you need.

The tools are listed in "Helpful Look-ups"—a link on the Data Town Web page.

Click on the tool you need, enter either a code or description, and the search instantly gives you the relevant information.

For example, the "Organization Codes" tool search screen (right):

List of "Helpful Look-up" Tools

  • Object Class Codes
    object class code, description, and major description

  • Property Class Codes and Manufacture Codes
    code, description/name, entry date, last update date, clerk ID, and usage status

  • Organization Codes
    organization code, IC, organization initials, and organization title

  • Nodes
    node, IC, primary contact name, and primary contact phone number

  • Nature of Action Codes
    NOAC code, NOAC definition, and NOAC type

  • Common Accounting Number
    IC, fiscal year, project CAN, and project CAN description

You do not need to register to use the "Helpful Look-up" tools. They are available to everyone.
