Journal clubs are a popular way for scientists to get together and discuss recently published scientific papers. They allow participants to stay up-to-date with new techniques and advances in their fields of interest.
The Summer Intern Journal Clubs are your opportunity to participate in this form of scientific communication. Journal Clubs will meet weekly for four weeks this summer between July 1st and August 4th. They will be led by NIH graduate students and postdocs, who are there to guide and support you as you develop your critical reading skills.
Students planning to participate in a Summer Journal Club should attend either the Science Skills Boot Camp or the Reading a Scientific Paper workshop.
While most Journal Clubs will meet on the main NIH campus in Bethesda, a few will meet in Rockville, Frederick, and Baltimore, and at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories as noted in the journal club title.
When registering for a Summer Journal Club, we will ask that you select and prioritize up to three journal clubs that interest you. We will then match you to a single journal club so that you don't take too much time away from your research. While we will do our best to assure that students are assigned to their top choice, the limited size of the journal clubs may require us to enroll some of you in your second choice.
