Ambassador Susman Welcomes Wandsworth Council's Resolution To Grant Outline Planning Permission For The Building Of A New U.S. Embassy

17 September 2009

Wandsworth Council's resolution to grant outline planning permission for the building of a new U.S. Embassy in Nine Elms is a welcome and important step forward for the project. U.S. Ambassador Louis Susman said of the decision, "I am delighted by this important advance in the planning process. It recognizes the positive role the new Embassy will play in the regeneration of Nine Elms. As the process continues, we look forward to collaborating with the Mayor of London, the Wandsworth Council, the Greater London Assembly, the community and other stakeholders."

"We will continue to set an exemplary standard in every aspect of the project - from our ongoing open and transparent consultation with stakeholders to the management of a robust design competition. The four shortlisted architects in the competition have all displayed a commitment to the highest caliber of architectural design and we are confident that they will produce nothing less than world-class proposals for the new Embassy building when they present to the jury in January 2010."
