2/4/2013 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AFNS) -- Airmen and aircraft from around the world as well as their coalition counterparts descended on Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada for Exercise Red Flag 13-2 Jan. 21 through Feb. 1.

Red Flag exercises are designed to help U.S. and international airmen prepare for real-world combat scenarios.

Mike Red Flag is a primairily air-to-air excercise. Iraq and Afghanistan are not particularly target-rich environments in the air-to-air department.

Mike Red Flag prepares airmen to fight major combat ops against a robust and difficult adversary with a near peer Air Force and heavily defended ground force. A fight that is very much not Afghanistan or Iraq.

Wouldn't over 10 years of combat in Iraq and Afhganistan have already prepared these airmen for real-world combat scenarios What was the price tag on this exercise
