Living with diabetes isn’t easy. It’s common to feel overwhelmed, sad, or angry.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Even if you know what to do to improve your health, figuring out how to do it and fitting it into your daily routine can be a challenge. To get started, make a plan.
- Think about what’s important to your health and what you’re willing and able to do.
- Determine what your goals are and choose one to work on first.
- Decide what steps will help you reach that goal.
- And pick one step to try this week.
For example, if your goal is to be more active, but you’re short on time, plan to start walking for ten minutes a few times each week – and build from there. And, if you stick with it for a week, give yourself a reward such as a walk through the mall.
