One of the leading causes of vision loss is one you may not have heard of.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers with the National Institutes of Health.
I’m talking about diabetic eye disease. If you have diabetes, having too much glucose in your blood can damage your eyes and cause some loss of vision, or even blindness.
So if you have diabetes, protect your eyes. Start by getting your eyes checked once a year. And work with your health care provider to keep your blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood cholesterol under control.
If you have diabetes, it’s important to know that several eye problems can be caused by diabetes.
Research supported by NIH is examining treatments that may slow down the progression of diabetic eye disease. Talk to your eye doctor to address eye problems caused by diabetes.
