As African Americans, we account for roughly 12 percent of the population, but when it comes to kidney failure—we represent 32% of the population on dialysis or with a kidney transplant—and that’s frightening.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Don’t wait to become a kidney failure statistic! If kidney disease is diagnosed and treated early, its progression to kidney failure may be prevented or delayed.
To increase awareness and to encourage testing for people who are at high risk, our National Kidney Disease Education Program has created Kidney Sundays and a Tool Kit for faith-based groups.
