For people with chronic kidney disease, figuring out the best diet to keep your kidneys healthy can be challenging. So, we’ve developed materials to make it easier for you to eat right.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been talking to you about good nutrition and how it can help slow down the course of kidney disease. You should limit salt and sodium, get the right balance of protein, and eat a heart healthy diet. Additionally, if your kidney disease is more severe, your health care provider may suggest that you eat foods that are lower in phosphorus and potassium.
To get a handle on the foods you eat, work with your dietitian, and read our Tips for People with Chronic Kidney Disease, on How to Read a Food Label.
