Biosketch:
Dr. Rushing earned his Ph.D. in Biopsychology from the University of Memphis. Before coming to NIH, Dr. Rushing conducted research investigating the central regulation of energy homeostasis as a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati. Prior to that, he studied gut hormones and the control of feeding behavior as an NIMH Postdoctoral Fellow at the Edward W. Bourne Behavioral Research Laboratory of Cornell University Medical College.
Dr. Rushing is a member of a number of NIH Standing Committees. He serves as the Electronic Research Administration (eRA) Review Business Advocate representing all ICs at NIH. He is also Co-Chair of the Review Users Group (RUG), a trans-NIH committee which identifies electronic requirements and advises the review advocate(s) and the eRA Project Team about functional priorities for development that can best fulfill the NIH mission. He has also chaired and participated in a number of eRA Focus Groups. In addition, Dr. Rushing is a member of the NIH Special Mechanisms Working Group and has participated in a number of NIDDK working groups including the Obesity Working Group. In terms of professional service, Dr. Rushing serves as a Fellow and U.S. Council Member of the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society (IBNS). He has served as Chair and member of a variety of IBNS committees. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the journal, Physiology and Behavior. In addition, he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). Dr. Rushing joined NIDDK’s Review Branch as an SRA in September, 2002.
