This week the U.S. government attended the reopening of the Ecole Hôtelière d’Haïti.  Just over two years ago the school collapsed in the earthquake and the students of the school saw their lives and livelihoods put on hold.  As the Haitian government has made tourism a key component of its development plan, U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of Transition Initiatives partnered with the Oasis Foundation and the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund to support the reopening of the hotel training school.  The U.S. government offered equipment and materials for the new facility.

Developing tourism will create greater economic opportunities for the Haitian people.  Several new hotel projects in Port-au-Prince will provide employment to graduates of this school, which has trained some of the stars of Haiti’s hospitality industry.  The 250 students who are resuming their studies will be central to restoring Haiti’s tourism industry.
