BETWEEN FRIENDS: 65 YEARS OF
BERMUDIAN-AMERICAN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
On March 1, 2012, U.S. Consul General to Bermuda Grace W. Shelton officially opened the U.S. Consulate photographic exhibit, “Between Friends: 65 Years of Bermudian-American Diplomatic Relations,” at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. The exhibit is a pictorial representation of the sustained and close relationship between the United States and Bermuda in the last half century. It consists of 26 photos of U.S. presidents in Bermuda or Bermudian premiers visiting Washington, beginning with President Harry Truman’s vacation cruise to the Island in 1946 through the present day, with numerous diplomatic meetings in between. There are formal photos of American presidents in Bermuda to participate in international summits juxtaposed with never-before-seen informal photos, like President George Bush flying kites and President Dwight D. Eisenhower attending church. The presidential libraries provided most of the photographs and assisted with research.
