What can I expect?

All visa applicants must qualify on their own merits.  By law, a Consular Officer is required to assume that all visa applicants desire to immigrate to the United States.  In order to qualify for a non-immigrant visa, you must prove to the Consular Officer that you have no intention to immigrate.  The burden of proof is on you, the applicant.   If you do not overcome this “presumption of immigration,” your visa will be denied.

When you arrive at the Embassy, the guard will assign you a number that indicated the order in which applicants will be called for visa interviews.   Visa applicants are usually interviewed within two hours of arrival at the Embassy.

At the end of your visa interview, the Consular Officer will inform you of the result of your visa application.  Approved visa applicants can pick up their passports with the visa inside the day after their application.
