Severe thunderstorms with several supercells moved across central North Carolina on May 6th. The mid and low level counter-clockwise circulation associated with one of these supercells across Orange County is visible in the pictures below. Despite the ominous appearance, no damage was reported with this storm. (Wednesday, May 6, 2009)

An EF-1 tornado touched down near Hope Mills, NC while at least two EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Sampson and Johnston Counties. In addition, two mesocyclones merged with each other over Johnston County. (Friday, March 29, 2009)
