The 2013 edition is the twelfth edition of the Agricultural Thesaurus, first released by the National Agricultural Library in 2002. Terminology is available in both English and Spanish versions. Aquaculture and fisheries terminology was revised. Taxonomic terms were expanded in this edition, including more than 900 new animal species and 100 new plant species added, along with their common names. Latin American plant species were added following taxonomic verification by the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) The Report of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (2011 release) was the authoritative reference for the more than 300 viruses new to this edition. In addition, the 2013 edition contains 190 new definitions, which appear in the thesaurus and separate glossary.
