SBP Open Enrollment

Note:
This page does not address Reserve Component SBP open enrollment elections.  For information on RCSBP open enrollment elections, contact the Air Reserve Personnel Center at (800) 525-0102)

SBP open enrollment periods may only be authorized by Congress and normally not unless a major change to the SBP occurs.  The last SBP open enrollment period, authorized by Public Law 108-375, began Oct. 1, 2005 and ended Sept. 30, 2006.

Previous open enrollments allowed members already receiving retired pay to elect SBP coverage or increase their existing coverage.  Members were required to pay a lump sum buy-in cost, and survive for two years from the effective date of the election.

No future open enrollment period has been authorized to date.
