WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Library of Congress is currently accepting nominations from college and graduate students interested in participating in the Library of Congress Junior Fellows Summer Intern program. The senator encourages students interested in library work, exploring key parts of the Library’s special format collections, and working directly with Library of Congress curators and specialists to apply for this internship.

“The Library of Congress Junior Fellows Summer Intern program offers North Dakota students an incredible opportunity to gain unique access to the world’s largest, all-inclusive library and the talented individuals who run it,” said Hoeven. “This fellowship is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I encourage North Dakota students to apply for this summer internship.”

The ten-week program runs from May 28 – Aug. 2, 2013, in Washington, D.C. Students selected for the program will work under the direction of Library of Congress curators and specialists in various divisions and will explore and have access to the institution’s unparalleled collections and resources. Fellows will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work, including preservation, reference, access standards, information management and the United States copyright system. Fellows will also search and inventory rare collections and plan a display and discussion regarding their discoveries.

Fellows must be United States citizens currently enrolled in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution of higher learning at the undergraduate or graduate level, or have graduated since August 2012 from an undergraduate or graduate program. No previous experience is needed, though the program is competitive and special skills and knowledge, including academic achievement, are factored into the selection process.

Fellows will work fulltime, Monday through Friday, and will receive a taxable income of $300 per week.

Individuals interested in applying for the fellowship should submit a completed application, cover letter, resume, transcript and two letters of recommendation to Senator Hoeven’s office no later than Monday, Feb. 11.
