DSS Moves Under 2005 BRAC

The Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC, is the congressionally authorized process the Department of Defense has used to reorganize its base structure to more efficiently and effectively support its military forces, increase operational readiness and facilitate new ways of doing business.

As a part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Committee recommendations, elements of the Defense Security Service were directed re-locate to Fort Meade, Md., or Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., by September 2011.

Under BRAC Recommendation H&SA-0108R, DSS, along with the Defense Intelligence Agency Defense Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence Center (formerly the Counterintelligence Field Activity) and the three Military Department Investigative Agencies were relocated to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
Also, under BRAC Recommendation H&SA-0099, the Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO) relocated to Fort George G. Meade, Md., along with the Defense and Military Department Adjudication Facilities.
