Engineering Development Laboratory
The Engineering Development Laboratory (EDL) facilities are used to obtain information on the behavior of molten nuclear fuel, both in-reactor pressure vessel and ex-vessel.
The Engineering and Development Laboratory (EDL) conducts a wide range of experimental research related to the safety of existing and future reactor technologies. It includes state-of-the-art experiments investigating high-temperature melt behavior and materials interactions, which are performed on both small and large scales. The laboratory also conducts a variety of experiments in support of the Department of Energy's GEN IV Initiative to develop innovative reactor technologies.
The EDL possesses unique facilities that are able to accommodate the special needs of reactor materials testing and maintains a staff with extensive expertise in experimental reactor safety research. This has attracted international sponsors for many of the experiments performed at the laboratory.
