Occupational Therapy Fieldwork

This internship is an 8 or 12 week supervised practice program based on the core competencies for entry level Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistants set by the American Occupational Therapy Association. The program provides 320 or 480 hours of clinical practice in General Medicine, Stroke Rehabilitation, TBI/Polytrauma, Community Living Center, Spinal Cord Injury, or In-patient Psychosocial Services. We have 26 practicing clinicians at the VAMC working in several departments and clinics of Occupational Therapy. We accept several students for their fieldwork placement each year.

The mission of the MVAMC Occupational Therapy Fieldwork is to train Occupational Therapy students to provide proper therapy services and education to the veteran and their families at an entry level position. Also, to provide an Occupational Therapy student who can carry out an appropriate plan of care with an interdisciplinary team to provide the best therapeutic services available. The program may or may not provide a stipend.

Specific information regarding our department can be found on the Minneapolis VA Extended Care & Rehabilitation website.

Interest to the Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Placement is contractual and we must have an agreement with the academic institution prior to acceptance. Correspondence must go through the Fieldwork Coordinator to set up an agreement between the school and student prior to placement.
