Congressman Bera is focused on creating jobs in Sacramento County by diversifying the region’s economy through his membership on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Science and Technology.

In an increasingly complex global landscape, relationships with other nations have tangible effects at home, and Congressman Bera believes we need strategic thinking to guide our foreign policy in the 21st century. Additionally, the Sacramento region is uniquely situated to benefit from opening up new markets for its goods and services around the world. The region sits at the heart of one of the most vibrant agricultural areas in the world, and has the nation’s top agricultural university, University of California, Davis. Congressman Bera is working with colleagues from both parties and the local business community in California's 7th district to strengthen our country's trade relationships with fast-growing countries in Asia that are natural, growing markets for Sacramento County products. That will create jobs here at home.

In his role on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, Congressman Bera is helping foster innovative industries that can help rebuild our nation’s economy and bring jobs to California’s 7th district. He believes our nation must re-affirm its commitment to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to help encourage innovation and the creation of high-tech jobs.

Congressman Bera is a member of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian American.

Congressman Bera is also a member of the New Democrat Coalition, a group of legislators dedicated to maintaining America’s standing as the world’s strongest, most successful nation.  His work with the New Dems is focused on finding ways to foster and harness American creativity and ingenuity so that it leads to new American jobs, greater economic prosperity, and a safer and more secure future for our country.
