September/October 2012. This edition of the Newsletter concentrates on Naval Logistics Integration (NLI), helping to optimize Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard logistics interdependency in the maritime domain, and improving how we operate and conduct our missions. As Col. John Burt wrote in his introduction article, NLI concepts were first developed in 2003, and today NLI is "entrenched in department and service-level policy and doctrine, and is guided by a Strategic Plan endorsed by all three naval service logistics chiefs." The Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard continue to integrate processes and technologies to ensure we maintain a naval logistics capability that can operate without failure both afloat and ashore. Also in this edition, you will read that Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich conducted a three-day visit to Boise, Idaho in support of the Chief of Naval Operations' 50/50 program, helping to broaden Navy outreach across the United States; CMDCM(SW/AW) Sidney Dawson conducted a Supply Enlisted Roadshow in Yokosuka and Atsugi; the Messlords visited the USS Enterprise (CVN 65); NEXCOM was named a “Top 50” company, and much more. July/August 2012. This edition of the Newsletter focuses on what Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich describes as the one thing that “truly keeps our Navy running 24/7,” FUEL! Fuel certainly plays a very fundamental and important role in our Navy, as we need fuel to keep our ships and aircraft powered, which provides our nation and other countries safety and security. NAVSUP Energy Operations Officer, Capt. Ari Iliakis provides a “101” on Navy fuels in his article, providing everyone a quick overview of the management and oversight required for this commodity. All of NAVSUP efforts in supporting alternative fuel efforts will help us meet and achieve Secretary of the Navy’s 2020 energy goal. Also in this edition, you will read that we have lost two Sailors, Rear Adm. Frank Allston, the author of “Ready for Sea,” and LSCM(AW/SW) Richard Kessler, Jr., who last served aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65); Lt. Britta Christianson, who is our first female Supply Corps officer to earn dolphins; Culinary Specialists cooking like it’s 1812; and Capt. May/June 2012. This edition of the Newsletter focuses on our very far reaching working relationships we have with our international partners, which as you will read in Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich’s column, "truly empowers us to achieve success in the man missions and operations we conduct." Bottom line upfront … if not for our international partners, we would not have the ability to execute missions, from warfighting support to providing life-saving essentials during natural disasters. And now, as we shift our U.S. national security focus toward the Asia-Pacific region, international partnerships in this region will be ever more important. As Robert Ketchum wrote in his article, this is a 50-year legacy of foreign representatives at NAVSUP field activities, and that legacy will continue for many years. Also in this edition … SHC(SW/AW) Angela Zamora is the first Ship’s Serviceman to represent the Navy as the Sea Sailor of the Year; Cmdr. David Hoyt attended and graduated from U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course; NAVSUP served up excellence at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Expo; and the 2012 Ney Award winners, and much more. March/April 2012. This edition of the Newsletter focuses on our Supply enlisted Sailors, who, as Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich states in his column, "make a very large impact on our Supply community, our Navy, our nation and their local communities." As you will soon read, CSC Daniel Spencer certainly had a large impact many as he was recognized for his brave actions in rescuing a man after a very serious car accident. As you will read, our Culinary Specialists, Logistics Specialists and Ship’s Servicemen enable our Navy to succeed in the many operations and missions we have before us. January/February 2012. Happy 50th Birthday NAVSUP Business Systems Center! This edition of the Newsletter centers on the many contributions BSC has made to the Navy. As Capt. Douglas Newell refers to in his article, the one thing that has not changed is the BSC team’s desire and ability to solve problems, which is certainly a benefit to all of us. The articles will give you a very clear view of BSC’s past, present, and what lies ahead in the future. Also in the edition, you will read of retired Chief Steward Carl Clark being awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, with Combat Distinguishing Device, for his heroic actions during World War II combat operations; NAVSUP Support for Marine Aviation; the continuing efforts to get donated food and supplies to Haiti, and much more.
