Southern AZ VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS) benefits from the services of over 1,400 individual volunteers each year. Over 200 volunteers are on duty each day helping to make SAVAHCS a health care center of excellence.
Volunteers from all ages and life experiences serve in many capacities at SAVAHCS. The mission of the SAVAHCS Volunteer Program is to be recognized as a leader in the utilization of volunteers and charitable donations and to enhance Veteran satisfaction through the delivery of compassionate, high quality care.
In addition to the many intangible benefits you receive from helping others as a volunteer, SAVAHCS provides specific rewards to say thank you to our volunteers. If you volunteer for four or more hours in a day, you will receive a complimentary meal at SAVAHCS. All volunteers receive a parking sticker. Parking is free and spaces in lot Q, F, and K are available for volunteers.

Volunteering at SAVAHCS offers you an opportunity to say thank you to a special group of men and women – American's Veterans.
Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (except Federal Holidays).
Location: Building 58, located off of the 6th Ave gate entrance.
Requirements: Minimum age is 14. An initial TB test is required for all new volunteers. Some volunteer positions may require an annual TB test. All volunteers must successfully complete a one-time Volunteer Orientation, and a fingerprint background check.
SAVAHCS Volunteers receive appropriate training for the job they are fulfilling. In addition all volunteers are asked to complete annual training requirements.

How To Become A VA Volunteer
For most positions the process to become a volunteer includes;
Once you successfully complete the interview process you will be scheduled to attend a two-hour volunteer orientation.
Volunteer positions such as concierge, caregiver support, driver and those positions needing computer access may require an additional background check and training.

VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) Committee
Each VA Medical Center has a VA Voluntary Service Committee comprised of representatives from the various community organizations who have members participating in the VAVS program. This committee recruits new volunteers and communicates patient needs to the community. For additional information contact (520) 629-1822.
