Federal Benefits
The Consular Section performs basic services for claimants and beneficiaries who have official business with benefit-paying agencies such as the Social Security Administration (SSA), Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), and Department of Labor (DL).
The U.S. Embassy Sarajevo does not take claims for Social Security (SSA). The regional Federal Benefits office in charge of it is located in the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece. It is responsible for the final development of SSA claims and processing SSA requests for services. They can be contacted at: FBUAthens@ssa.gov.

- General inquiries regarding benefits
(Social Security, Veterans’ Administration)
- Specific inquiries about the benefits, including:
- change of address
- death of beneficiary
- non-receipt of checks
