Coats: Addressing Spending is Top Priority of 113th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.), Senior Senate Republican on the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, today spoke on the Senate floor and said that addressing out-of-control government spending should be the top priority of the 113th Congress.

In his speech, Coats said, “Just last week Fitch Ratings warned that America's AAA credit rating is at risk if Congress and the President increase the debt limit but fail to enact a ‘credible medium-term deficit reduction plan.’ We can expect to see more and more headlines like this if Washington does not come together and take action to deal with our country’s debt obligations.”

Coats added, “Continuing with the status quo, governing via crisis and failing to address our spending problem must be unacceptable.”
