Published a year after the First WHO report on Neglected Tropical Diseases, this reports on the progress that has been made in the fight against neglected tropical diseases.
This report presents evidence to demonstrate that activities undertaken to prevent and control neglected tropical diseases are producing results – and that achievements are being recognized. By 2008, preventive chemotherapy had reached more than 670 million people in 75 countries.
National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminthiasis in Cameroon – Annual Report 2010 [PDF, 4.6MB]
Nearly 6 million children were dewormed in 2010 through a program implemented by the Ministries of Health and Education, with support from USAID, RTI, and Helen Keller International. Nearly 4 million treatments were donated by Johnson & Johnson and 2.5 million were donated by WHO/Merck. In addition, recent mapping results show success of annual deworming campaigns and control of schistosomiasis.
