Embassy Algiers hosted Muslim hip hop group Native Deen from September 25-29 in Oran, Tlemcen, and Algiers. Native Deen consists of three young Muslims raised in America, portraying the message that Muslims should be proud of their religion. The group performed in all three cities starting in Tlemcen, where Ambassador Ensher attended the performance and received an appreciation award from the Ministry of Culture. The final performance in Algiers ended the tour with a bang. In Algiers, Joe Batoury, a local legend who masters the art of Gnawi music, opened the show and the group joined together at the end of the performance to perform a “fusion” song of Gnawi and hip hop that brought the crowd to their feet.
