Algerian University Students Attend Conflict Transformation Presentation (US Embassy Algiers)

Approximately 65 Algerian students attended a presentation on August 1 by Janessa Gans Wilder, founder and CEO of the Euphrates Institute, entitled, “Our World Beyond 9/11: Moving from Conflict to Peace.”   The audience was inquisitive and highly engaged, asking Mrs. Wilder about Americans’ opinions on U.S.-Algeria relations and on the ongoing Arab revolutions in the region.  The talk gave students an opportunity to express opinions on themes that are not often discussed in the classroom.  A central theme of the talk was the capacity for societal change, and the audience was extremely optimistic that individual change could lead to societal transformation.
