Embassy and Consulate Information Resource Centers (IRC) can assist you with your inquiries about U.S. government policy and organization, economy, history, culture and society. Information resources range from basic reference works to specialized government documents, legislation and a wide spectrum of American newspapers and periodicals. The IRCs are part of a network of information centers within the U.S. federal government and the American library community. Consider the IRC in your consular district your primary resource in Germany for information about the United States.

Contact the IRC in the consular district serving your state (see box on the right) with your reference and research inquiries. IRC staff respond to inquiries by e-mail, telephone, letter and fax. Appointments can be made for direct use of IRC information resources for more complex research requests.

America@your library® is a partnership initiative between the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and public libraries in Germany. The Information Resource Centers in the Embassy and Consulates work with libraries to select books and other information material on the United States appropriate to local information needs. In addition, the Information Resource Centers work with participating libraries to develop workshops, readings and other cultural and outreach programs as well as web-based projects.

About the USA The IRC provides background information and links on topics of particular interest for students and teachers via About the USA, a digital resource collection of information and documents on U.S. political, economic, social, and cultural processes. Request a copy of About the USA on CD-ROM for classroom use from the Information Resource Center in your consular district.

The Information Resource Centers provide web-based reference and referral services for information on study and exchange opportunities in the United States.
