Reception for young scientists

Ambassador Eacho and Detlof von Winterfeldt, Director of the IIASA

Ambassador William Eacho gave a reception for the participants of the Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) at his residence. The annual summer-long program is sponsored by the International Institute for the Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).

The IIASA was originally founded by United States and the Soviet Union in Laxenburg, Austria, in 1972 as an international scientific institute to conduct policy-orientated research into problems too complicated to be solved by a single country or academic discipline. The institute now has funding from 18 national member organizations including the United States, Russia, Austria, Brazil, China, Egypt, Finland, Germany, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, South Africa, Sweden and Ukraine, with Poland as an observer country.

The IIASA has three core research themes: Energy and Technology, Population and Society, and Environment and Natural Resources.
