Nonimmigrant Visas

Registration Denied Under ESTA

If your registration under the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) has been denied, you are required to apply for a visa. Before scheduling the appointment we suggest that you review the following:

  • Are you qualified to travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program? If you are not sure, then use our Visa Waiver Wizard to help you decide;
  • Did you answer all of the eligibility questions correctly? If you believe that you may have made a mistake you may submit a new registration, but must wait 24 hours before doing so;
  • Did you enter the details of a passport that has at one time ever been reported lost and stolen? If you did, you will be required to obtain a new passport and submit a new registration.

If you are required to apply for a visa, then please call the Operator Assisted Information Service to schedule an appointment for a visa interview. Please note that the agents will not be able to advise you why your registration was denied. If you do not know, you may wish to contact the Department of Homeland Security through their Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (TRIP).
