Command Sergeant Major Mark Pumphrey, is a native of Dayton, Ohio. He entered the United States Army in April 1984. He attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Command Sergeant Major Pumphrey’s assignments include 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Stewart, Georgia; 2nd Battalion, 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Kaiserslautern, Germany; 24th Forward Support Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia; 120th Medical Detachment, Erlangen, Germany; 47th Field Hospital, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; 232nd Medical Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Academy Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major 14th Combat Support Hospital, Fort Benning, Georgia, Command Sergeant Major 56th Multi-Functional Medical Battalion, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington and most recently as Command Sergeant Major, Troop Command Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Command Sergeant Major Pumphrey has served in numerous leadership positions to include Squad Leader, Pharmacy NCOIC, Drill Sergeant, Senior Instructor, Pharmacy Branch, AMEDD Center and School, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major.

Command Sergeant Major Pumphrey’s military education includes Primary Noncommissioned Officers Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, First Sergeant Course, United States Army Instructor Course, the United States Army Drill Sergeant School. He is a graduate of Class 59 of the United States Army Sergeant’s Major Academy. His civilian education includes an Associate’s Degree from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy University.

Command Sergeant Major Pumphrey’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (Six Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Medal with three Bronze Stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Oversees Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Saudi Arabia-Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, NATO Medal, Global War Terrorism Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation (two Oak Leaf Cluster), Drill Sergeant Badge, Driver’s Badge the Expert Field Medical Badge and he has been inducted into the Order of the Military Medical Merit.
