Medical Information

All travelers should familiarize themselves with conditions at their destination that could affect their health (types of medical facilities, required immunizations, availability of required pharmaceuticals, etc.).  The key resource for health information is the Travelers’ Health page of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website at http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/.

Information about infectious diseases abroad may be found on the website of the World Health Organization at http://www.who.int/en/, and further health information for travelers is available at http://www.who.int/ith/.  For more information about pandemic influenza, including avian flu, see http://www.pandemicflu.gov or http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1215.html.

  • Nicaragua: Health Information & Vaccines  Read what the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has to say about health issues in Nicaragua.
  • Hospitals and Doctors in Nicaragua Find a list of hospitals and physicians in Nicaragua.  Note that payment of hospital and all expenses is the responsibility of the traveler and that the U.S. Embassy does not have funds to pay for medical care.
  • DNA Parentage Testing. DNA parentage testing may be necessary to establish paternity in certain citizenship and immigration cases.  Read specific instructions on getting these tests.
