What We Do: ILS

Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD)
Integrated Logistics Support

In order to maintain and operate a combat or weapon system, Sailors need documentation, training manuals, spare parts, tools, and other support items. Collectively, these items and the processes that ensure their existence are called logistics, or Integrated Logistics Support.

One element of logistics involves the automated tracking of the current configuration of a weapon or combat system. Modifications and upgrades to a system occur all the time and the fleet needs to know their current configuration. Specialists maintain electronic data files that depict accurate and current configurations of the systems and include all engineering changes.

Electronic technical data systems are in place to accelerate access and transmission of information to and from the fleet. These systems facilitate logistics supportability through automated provisioning, feedback reports, and automated and interactive technical manuals.

NSWC PHD logistics experts have transformed our products and services in support of acquisition reform initiatives and system supportability methodologies. In today’s environment we are providing digitized logistics technical data, developing supportability methods for commercial-off-the-shelf items, and focusing on a reduction in total ownership cost.
