USCIS Transition

In March 2011, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) closed its Ho Chi Minh City offices. Click here for the official announcement.

Certain functions performed by USCIS in Ho Chi Minh City transferred to the Consular Section at the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.

USCIS Services transferred to the U.S. Consulate

  • WIDOW OR WIDOWER OF A U.S. CITIZEN (FORM I-360) If you are a widow or widower of an U.S. citizen who had already filed an I-130 petition for their immediate relative, the I-130 will be automatically converted to a Form I-360 by the U.S. Consulate. If you are a widow or widower of a U.S. citizen who had not filed an I-130 petition, you may file a I-360 by coming to the U.S. Consulate in person. Please click here for further information. For information on Consulate hours of I-360 petition acceptance, click here.
  • ABANDONMENT OF LPR STATUS (Form I-407) The abandonment of lawful permanent resident status is irrevocable. An individual who relinquishes lawful permanent resident status must qualify again for such status. Therefore, one should give careful thought to abandoning lawful permanent resident status. If you wish to abandon your permanent residence and relinquish your Permanent Resident Card (Green Card), click here for further information.
  • PICK UP REENTRY PERMIT The U.S. Consulate will notify individuals in writing when their approved Reentry Permits are received by the U.S. Consulate from USCIS in the United States. Click here for further information.
  • FOLLOW-TO-JOIN BENEFICIARIES of APPROVED I-730 PETITIONS The U.S. Consulate will notify follow-to-join relatives whose I-730 petitions have been received by the U.S. Consulate from the National Visa Center for an interview appointment and processing. All I-730 petitions are filed by the petitioner in the United States and approved by USCIS in the United States.
  • WAIVER OF INADMISSABILITY (FORM I-601) IV and K applicants found ineligible during the interview, and for whom a waiver is available, will have to file their Form I-601, (and any concurrently filed Form 1-212, if applicable) directly with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Lockbox in the United States.  The USCIS Lockbox will forward all complete waiver filings to the Nebraska Service Center (NSC) for adjudication.  The form I-601 and the information on how and where to file a waiver can be found at the USCIS website at http://www.uscis.gov/i601
