Non-Immigrant Visas

General Information

It is important that all applicants for non-immigrant visas schedule an interview several weeks in advance of their intended departure date.

Before appearing at the Embassy, applicants must fill out the application form DS-160 on line, available at: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

Applicants for a U, K, N, S, and T visas should use the forms found at the following link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html.

As per the directions at the above link, please pay and schedule your appointment at ECOBANK.

For information on the tiered, non-refundable visa application processing fee, please see the following link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1263.html#temp
or to see reciprocity tables, please go to http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees 32.72. Fees - Link to reciprocity tables at
http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html For information on visa issuance fees. If you are applying for a Non-immigrant visa.

Applicants should arrive at the Embassy on the day of their appointment by 7:30 am with their DS-160 receipt, ECOBANK receipt, and supporting documents. Application, photograph requirements, and additional documentation requirements by visa classification can be found at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/temp_1305.html

Applicants should expect to spend most of the day at the Embassy.  If granted, many visas will be available for pick-up at the Embassy in 2 business days. You will be given a numbered passport receipt and pick-up time after the interview that will determine the exact date that your visa will be ready.

If the consular officer decides not to issue a visa, the applicant will receive a letter of explanation of the law at the end of the interview. A refusal is not a moral judgment. Applicants can reapply, but a new application and payment of the visa application processing fee will be required.

If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, you must ask for a new interview date with the Consular Section. If the applicant's ECOBANK receipt will expire (receipts are valid one year from the date of deposit), the applicant may have to reapply at ECOBANK and restart the process. If an applicant would like to request an expedited appointment for emergency travel, please contact the consular section.

All minor children must be accompanied to their interview by their parents/guardians.

Cell phones, tape recorders, cameras, electronic items, or sharp instruments are prohibited in the Consular Section.

Average wait time for a visa interview appointment can be found at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/wait_4638.html (Disclaimer: there are many additional factors, such as the need for additional administrative processing and/or incomplete applications may influence the processing of individual visa cases. The listed wait times are averages, and actual timing will vary based on the individual circumstance of each case). For information about timeframes for cases requiring administrative processing, please see: http://travel.state.gov/visa/a_zindex/a_zindex_4353.html.

  5. In order to establish a family relationship, please bring birth and/or marriage certificates to prove the relationships between family members planning to travel together. Children should appear at visa interviews and may be interviewed separately from their parents.

Note: There is not a specific piece of documentation that any applicant can provide to prove or convince the Consular officer that they have strong enough ties to their country of origin. The Consular officer makes a determination on NIV eligibility based on a combination of the interview questions and documentation that may have been provided by the applicant. Adults must qualify on their individual merits. No friend, relative, or business associate can “guarantee” your return on your behalf. A letter of invitation promising to pay the expenses of your trip does not mean that you will receive a visa.

Note: Applicants for A-3, G-5, NATO-7, H, J, and B-1 personal or domestic servant visas, need to read and understand the contents of the Legal Rights and Protections Pamphlet prior to the interview: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/pamphlet/pamphlet_4578.html
