Services Overview
The American Citizen Services Unit assists U.S. citizens with the following:
- Application for new or renewed passports
- Registration of U.S. citizens living in or traveling to Nicaragua
- Security information for citizens planning to travel to Nicaragua
- Voter registration
- Social security and other federal benefits
- Federal income tax forms
- Notarial services for documents to be used in the United States
- Certain emergency services, including prisoner arrests and deaths
What American Citizen Services cannot do:
- Act as your lawyer, translator, interpreter, personal assistant, travel agent, investigator, law enforcement agent or real estate agent
- Provide you or your family with physical protection
- Pay your debts or fines, sort out property disputes or interfere in judicial proceedings
- Find you employment, residence, or schools
- Search for missing luggage
- Settle disputes with hotel managers and landlords
- Resolve problems regarding your immigration status
- Lobby the visa section to issue a U.S. visa
- Answer questions about specific U.S. visas cases
