2/7/2013 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- After months of preparation, the 445th Airlift Wing wrapped up a six-day operational readiness inspection that began with a deployment Jan. 27 leaving here for Mississippi and ended with a redeployment back home late Feb. 1.

While in Mississippi, the 445th's 329 ORI players from various career fields joined the 452nd Air Mobility Wing's, March Air Reserve Base, Calif., ORI players at the Trent Lott Combat Readiness Training Center in Gulfport, Miss., Jan. 28 through Feb. 1.

ORIs are conducted approximately every five years to evaluate the ability of units with a wartime or contingency mission to perform assigned operational missions. The last ORI for the wing was in February of 2008. At that time, the wing teamed up with not only the 452nd but also the 940th Air Refueling Wing, Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

"Numerous training requirements are required for an Airman to be ready as either a primary or alternate for an ORI; to include self-aid and buddy care, weapons familiarization and CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives training," Master Sgt. Kerrie Yeager, 445th Logistics Readiness Squadron traffic management craftsman, said.

In preparation for the inspection, the wing completed an ORE (operational readiness exercise) in September to hone their skills followed by further training events during the unit training assemblies leading up to January. One final push was the 445th Rodeo, a team building event encapsulating all the training accomplished, giving Airmen the opportunity to have some fun in a training environment and blow off some steam.

The wing will receive its overall ORI results Feb. 15.
