The first EducationUSA Higher Education Fair at the Hotel Rus in Kyiv, Ukraine

Over 1,000 prospective students attended the first EducationUSA Higher Education Fair on November 3, 2012 at the Hotel Rus in Kyiv, Ukraine.  Representatives from 15 different universities and colleges explained their diverse academic programs to a constant stream of eager students.  EducationUSA organized the fair with the assistance of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.  Other participating institutions included American Councils for International Education (ACTR / ACCELS), Fulbright Program Ukraine, International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), and Worldwide Studies Program Ukraine.

During the fair, the U.S. Embassy and EducationUSA conducted presentations.  Two U.S. consular officers outlined the F-1 student visa process and fielded a variety of questions regarding international student study in the U.S.  Representatives of the EducationUSA advising center followed with a program entitled “If You Want to Study in the U.S.”   Students learned about university entry requirements, the application process, and financing options for higher education.

The direct contact among university representatives, consular officers, and prospective students during the four hour fair allowed for an open and informative conversation about study in the U.S.  Organizers hope to capitalize on the success of this year’s fair and increase the number of visiting educational institutions next year.  This year, attending colleges and universities included the Florida Institute of Technology, Foothill-De Anza Community College District, Green River Community College, Hawaii Pacific University, John Cabot University, New York State University at Buffalo, Northern Virginia Community College, Pace University, Portland Community College, Rutgers University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Kentucky, University of Northern Iowa, and West Virginia University.
