How to Apply

How to apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa at the U.S. Embassy Skopje

Step One: Schedule an Appointment

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The U.S. Embassy in Macedonia is pleased to announce changes to the nonimmigrant visa application and appointment process.  Starting December 3, 2012, applicants will no longer be required to purchase a PIN number as part of the application process.   Applicants must still pay the visa application fee (also known as the Machine Readable Visa or “MRV” fee), but we now offer more convenient options for paying the visa fee.  We will also offer many convenient locations throughout Macedonia where applicants can pick up their visas.

Beginning December 3, 2012, the U.S. Embassy will provide services for visa information, appointments, and visa fee payment as follows:

Complete visa information, MRV (visa fee) payment and appointment scheduling are available via three methods:

  • Via telephone number (+389) 2 317 1042 in Macedonia or (703)439-2346 in the U.S.
  • On Skype at usvisamacedonia

The MRV fee (visa application fee) may be paid online or over the telephone, with a MasterCard or Visa credit card.  It may also be paid in person in Macedonia at any Komercijalna Banka location using Denars or in Kosovo at any Raiffeisen Bank, using Euros.  Applicants who wish to pay at a bank must first log on to http://usvisa-info.com to print a deposit slip.

More convenient visa delivery: Applicants from Macedonia will now be able to pick up their visas at various locations throughout Macedonia. There is no additional charge for this service.  Applicants from Kosovo will still pick up their visas at the U.S. Embassy.

To begin the process of applying for a U.S. nonimmigrant visa, applicants should go to http://usvisa-info.com or contact our Visa Information Service at the numbers listed above.

The telephone information service will be open for extended business hours from 7:00 to 21:00 local time, Monday through Friday. Regular business hours will resume after 60 days.

Please note than an online visa application must be completed and required visa application fees must be paid before an appointment can be scheduled.

It is our goal to ensure that applicants already in the scheduling process are not negatively affected by these changes. If you have already paid your MRV fee prior to December 3, 2012, but have not yet scheduled an appointment, please send an email toconsularskopje@state.gov.

Step Two: Complete and Submit the Application Form and Gather Required Documents

  • Nonimmigrant visa applicants must complete and submit the electronic application form DS-160, available at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv. All nonimmigrant visa applicants, regardless of what type of visa they are applying for, will be required to fill out this form online prior to their appointment at the Consular Section in Skopje.

  • The form is in English only. Your answers must be in English and must contain only English characters, except when you are asked to provide your full name in your native alphabet. Letters like ñ, é, ü, ç are not recognized by the system. Please enter names like Muñoz and Sémonin as Munoz and Semonin, unless otherwise asked. The form DS-160 also requires a digital photo, less than 1MB, to be uploaded as part of the application process. Click here for photo requirements.

  • There is no longer a written application form. After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be provided with a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information, their photo and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to the interview along with one (1) photograph (see photo requirements above). Although uploading a photo is part of the application process, we still require visa applicants to bring one full-face photo (5cm by 5cm) with them in the event that the system will not accept the uploaded version.

  • Important Note: To submit the form you must press the Sign and Submit button. That constitutes your electronic signature certifying that all the answers on the application are true and correct.

All questions on the form DS-160 must be answered completely and accurately. Otherwise, we will not be able to process the visa application and a new interview appointment will be required. Completing the application does NOT automatically schedule the interview appointment.

  • One full-face photo on a white background taken within the past six months and measuring 2 inches by 2 inches (5cm by 5cm).
  • Documents to support your reason for travel and establishing your professional, financial and familial ties to your home country, such as verification of student status or employment, evidence of your financial resources, etc.

Step Three: Pay the Application Fee

Non-immigrant visa applicants must pay a $160 visa application fee (payable in local currency) before submitting an application. The fee may be paid either at Raiffeisen Bank in Kosovo or at Kimercijalna Banka in Macedonia.

As of April 13, 2012 the non-immigrant visa fee will increase to $160

Step Four: Go to the Embassy Skopje for your Visa Application Interview

  • Bring the documents outlined above in Step Two.

  • Bring your passport - it must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned entry date into the United States.
