Command Sergeant Major Tabitha A. Gavia entered the Army in January 1988, attended Basic Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama and Advanced Individual Training for Pershing II Missile Electronic Repairer at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. She later attended the Advanced Individual Training for Radiology Specialists at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Her assignments include 41st Ordnance Company, 59th Ordnance Brigade, West Germany, Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington, 99th Support Battalion, 199th Infantry Brigade, Fort Lewis, Washington, Troop Support Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, Louisiana, Fort Polk NCO Academy, Fort Polk, Louisiana, Denver Recruiting Battalion, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., 21st Combat Support Hospital, Fort Hood, Texas, Army Medical Department Center and School, Fort Sam Houston, Texas and the 65th Medical Brigade, Republic of Korea.

CSM Gavia has served in several duty positions to include: Pershing II Missile Electronic Repairer, Radiology Specialist, Area Support Team NCO, Squad Leader, PLDC Instructor, Recruiter, Station Commander, Imaging and Radiology Services NCOIC, Combat Support Hospital Operations NCO, Combat Medic Training Research and Development NCO, First Sergeant, Chief Instructor/Writer, Academy of Health Sciences Senior Enlisted Advisor, and Brigade Operations Sergeant.

Her military education includes all NCOES courses. She is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 55. She has earned an Associate Degree in Technology and a Bachelors of Science in Liberal Arts. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (Silver OLC), and the Expert Field Medical Badge. She is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and the Order of Military Medical Merit.
