Appointments Procedures

Please do not bring large bags, such as backpacks, suitcases, packages, or any electronic devices such as mobile phones, Smart Phone, PDAs, or iPods, as they are not allowed inside the Embassy and there are no storage facilities on the Embassy grounds.

PLEASE NOTE:  An appointment is required to receive services.

Visa interviews are conducted every Wednesday from 8:00AM - 11:00AM.  Applicants must schedule an appointment in advance walk-ins are not accepted.

With the exception of an interpreter or physical assistant, only persons being interviewed will be admitted.  Applicants must inform the Consular Section of the accompanying individuals, name, ID or Passport number and capacity prior to the appointment.  Minor child (not applying) who accompany their applicant parent/guardian may be admitted.

Security Screening

Members of the public including American Citizens visiting the Consular Section must submit to a security screening and will be asked to surrender or return any of the following items to their vehicle:  

  • electronic devices including, cameras, cell (mobile) phones, media player and recording devices,
  • any non-essential baggage regardless of size,
  • dangerous, sharp or pointed instruments,
    smoking items,
  • any other objects deemed  to be prohibited by security personnel

A receipt card will be provided in exchange for surrendered items surrendered and the applicant may be required to returned large items to their vehicle.  Persons refusing to be screened or to abide by the determination of security personnel with regard to prohibited items will not be admitted.

PLEASE NOTE:  Each applicant must have an appointment to be interviewed.

Non-Immigrant Visa Applicants must schedule appointments for their visa interviews, minimizing waiting time. Instructions on “How to Apply for a Visa in Malta” now contain an e-link to the NIV Appointment Calendar.  You can use this link to schedule an appointment for your visa interview.

Exceptions to the appointment requirements in cases of bonafide Emergency such as:

  • family death or illness
  • emergency medical treatment
  • provision of support to a family member undergoing such treatment
  • U.S. Court summons
