Message from the Consul General

On behalf of Ambassador Charles H. Rivkin and the entire team here at the United States Consulate General in Strasbourg, welcome to our web page.

Since 1866, the U.S. Consulate General in Strasbourg has provided assistance and services to American citizens in what are today the French provinces of Alsace, Lorraine, and Franche-Comte, and has also worked to forge closer ties of friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United States and this beautiful region of Europe.  In addition, since 1995, the Consulate General has served as the office of the U.S. Permanent Observer Mission to the 47-member Council of Europe, an international organization founded in 1949 and headquartered in Strasbourg with the goal of promoting peace, democracy, and respect for human rights and the rule of law in Europe.

Today, we strive to continue this tradition of consular service and diplomacy.  Thousands of Americans live in our consular district, visit here every year as tourists, study at its outstanding universities, or do business here.  And, lest we forget, thousands of American soldiers are interred here, reminding us always of the shared values and sacrifices that have bound the American and French peoples together since the birth of our nation.

So whether you’re an American citizen living here, a tourist passing through, a student expanding your knowledge of French history, culture and language, or a business person exploring new opportunities to engage in international commerce, or, if you’re a French citizen seeking more information about the United States, we hope you’ll find what you’re looking for on this web site.  If not, then we hope you’ll feel free to call or visit us.  We’re looking forward to meeting and interacting with you.

We’re at your service!
