Thomas E. Williams

Tom Williams is the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh.  He was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait until July 2011.  Prior to that assignment he was Director of the Afghanistan and Pakistan office in the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau at the State Department, overseeing an annual foreign assistance budget in excess of one billion dollars.  Other assignments include Director of Israel and Palestinian Affairs within the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Deputy Director of the Arabian Peninsula and Iran office within the same Bureau, Economic Chief in Abu Dhabi, Political Officer in Bahrain, and he also served in the Political Section in Kuwait from 1996-98.  Mr. Williams has also been posted to Islamabad, Manila and studied Arabic in Tunis.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Mr. Williams is married and has two children with his wife, Stephanie, who is also a Foreign Service Officer.
