Emergency Passports
Emergency, limited-validity passports are only issued when standard processing times would cause an applicant medical, personal, financial, or other hardship. If you need a passport for emergency travel, please follow these instructions:
1.Please check our appointments website to see if there is an available passport appointment prior to your date of travel. We can issue a same-day emergency passport when you bring documentary proof of the emergency to your appointment.
2.If no appointment is available on or before your travel date, please send an e-mail to jerusalemacs@state.gov to request an emergency appointment. Please put "EMERGENCY" in the subject line to ensure a timely response, and state the nature of the emergency and the proposed date of travel. This e-mail box is monitored between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, except for American and local holidays.
3.Applicants with extreme emergencies who are unable to complete steps 1 and 2 above should come to the Consular Section at 8:00 a.m. on regular business days. Please bring all documentary proof of your emergency.
Processing Times
Same-day issuance is available for applications that are complete and straightforward. In some cases, however, we may be required to refer your case to the Department of State for review.
Application Procedures
Application requirements, including fees, for emergency passports are the same as those for full-validity passports. The only difference is that courier service is not available. Replacing a Limited-Validity Emergency Passport
We strongly encourage you to exchange your limited-validity emergency passport for a new, full-validity passport as soon as possible. If you do so within one year of the issuance of the emergency passport, you will not be charged another passport application fee. The procedures for replacing an emergency passport are located here.
